Apple has now released the iPhone 7 in the United Kingdom and most of the world. Unlike its predecessors, several upgrades have been made on this newly released model. It now comes in very handy with IP67 waterproofing, stereo speakers, iOS 10 and a new dual-core processor. These recently clarified upgrades verify some of the rumours that were widely spread before now including whether Apple was keeping the headphone jack which is nowhere to be found on the new iPhone.
This time, Apple has doubled their storage capacities; as standard, iPhone 7 now comes along with 32GB capacity size and can be upgraded to 128GB or 256GB. While the upgraded premium-looking, mirror-finish Jet Black iPhone will only be available in the capacities of 128GB and 256GB, the new iPhone 7 is available in five colours including two blacks, Silver, Rose Gold and Gold.
At the moment, there is nothing revolutionary in the smartphone world. The iPhone 7A has certain features that will distinguish this new phone from other models like the iPhone 6s. While most of the observable changes are saved up for next yeara€™s iPhone 8, there is still a fair bit to be announced. Just as it was rumoured, Apple fans now have the option to either use the separately sold but brand-new wireless Apple EarPods or the available Lightning-connected Apple Ear Pods to connect the typical pair of wired headphones since the headphone jack has been removed. What is completely outrageous is the price that Apple have applied to their new wireless headphones. They cost an astonishingA A£159 on the Apple store and judging by the reviews online they aren’t anything special.
If you would like headphones that sound and look good at a reasonable price then check outA J&L Swan Bluetooth Earbuds for only A£22.99:
If you are struggling with the fact that the headphone jack is missing then not to worry, Apple has already found a solution for your problems. It may not be the best solution, but at least they understand some users are going to have concern towards the fact that the headphone jack has been removed. Especially when the size of the iPhone does not see any dramatic changes, asking the question what was the point in the first place? Apple has commented suggesting that they need more room for the iPhone to add other things, maybe an increase in the battery size, who knows. Anyway, Apple has stocked all iPhone 7’s with a lightning port headphone adapter that you plug into your charging slot. Another issue that arises from the headphones being plugged into the charging slot, you will have to pay around A£30 to listen to music and charge your phone at the same time. This adaptor is provided by Apple but at an extra cost which may frustrate wire lovers.
Other significant changes include a newly improved Apple A10 Fusion quad-core processor aimed at bettering performance and graphics, a Force Touch home button, an improved camera, new stereo speakers installed both at the top and at the bottom and the new water- and dustproof design (IP67 rated). The new iPhone 7 has passed the IP67 test, but we advise against throwing your phone in a bath full of water anytime soon. Apple has said that the new iPhone will be resistant to water to a maximum of one metre during a 30 minute period but does not mean that the iPhone 7 is fully waterproof. According to reports, Apple has done an exquisite job of designing the new iPhone 7, the issue they have is the possibility of the phone suffering from water damage. Many customers who have bought the iPhone 7 have tested its durability with positive outcomes.
In a bid to revitalise its Home button, Apple went on to introduce a new Taptic engine thereby rendering more capabilities to the Home button. To this end, the button does more than just returning to the home screen as it has now had several other tasks to handle such as Apple Pay, Reachability, Touch ID, accessibility, Siri, and multi-tasking. Built in a solid state, the new Home button has been designed to be even more customizable and responsive. For quick actions, ringtones, notifications, messages and actions, your experience with the button can be altered with the Force Touch functionality which works with the Taptic engine. The new iPhone 7 pressure button will take some time for the user to get used to but avoids any issues that some iPhone users had with the old home button breaking.
The iPhone 7’s screen has seen some improvements in colour and contrast however if you compare the phone to the new Samsung S7 the sharpness is lacking somewhat. Watching films still looks good but compared to other competitors the iPhone is still below even with the HD resolution suffering from noticeable pixels around the screen. The iPhone screen is an improvement over the last phone but just hasn’t reached the heights of other competitors. The screens brightness and colorfulness will be the first thing that iPhone users notice if they have upgraded from the predecessors. Apple has increased both brightness and colorfulness to a standard that is enjoyable and not too much on the eyes.
What iPhone 7 has done very well and really smashed other phones out of the park, is the new iPhone A10 Fusion Chip. What is actually quite funny is the fact that this new chip beats all other phones in speed and even outpaces the new Macbook Pro. Apple has achieved the impossible and may start dominating the processor market, leaving Intel wondering where it went so very wrong. Such a small device has the technological advancements inside even to give a laptop a run for its money, Apple you have really done well here. The iPhone has no issues with heavy duty applications, the processor can cope with everything that you throw at it.
The iPhone camera has a 12-megapixel camera with an optical image stabilisation, allowing the camera to take breathtaking pictures that even a photographer would be proud about. The selfie camera has now got a 7-megapixel camera with a 1080p video quality. This will be great news for all you snapchatters or vloggers out there.
Now down to the Battery Life, Apple have said that the battery life has improved considerably compared to its predecessor. The battery inside the phone has increased, and the A10 processor has four cores, two cores that tailor for the heavy duty stuff and the other two cores focusing on the lighter apps. The stronger processor means that the iPhone doesn’t have to work as hard to complete tasks, leading to an improvement in battery life.
In all honesty, Apple seems to be finding it tough to improve the iPhone each year. The last three years have seen microscopic improvements, only enhancing the speed of the phone and minor tweaks with that. Personally, I have kept my iPhone 6, awaiting an iPhone that is worth while purchasing, my phone at the moment still has a fast enough processor with everything that I need. In my eyes spending nearly A£1000 for a new phone, means that the improvements to that phone have to be sufficient to the price. The iPhone 7 is a really great phone, however I feel that waiting for the iPhone 8 whenever that will be, will mean I save a lot of money and get a phone that has some vast improvements.
